Week 1: Character Development & Compelling Relationships (April 4th)
We will be learning what makes compelling and dimensional characters, using their wants, needs and obstacles. You will build world views for your characters, deepening their perspective in the script and fine tuning how they interact with other characters. Whether you’re starting from scratch or re-writing a new draft, you will be able to use these techniques to learn more about who your character is and how they most organically operate in your story.
Week 2: World Rules, Mythology & Tone (April 11th)
This week, we will be building the world of your script by giving it a set of rules and a mythology. This is for any genre. We will use this mythology to build the tone of your script and discover the language needed to communicate the world of your story to the readers who often have little time to decide whether or not this project is for them.
Week 3: Premise, Plot, Timeline & Structure (April 18th)
In week 3, we will be revisiting or building for the first time the structure of your script. Using variations on the classic 3-act structure, we will outline the major beats of the story to develop a writer’s-block-proof turn of events that ensure you’re telling the most compelling version of your story.
Week 4: Stakes & Tension (April 25th)
Reviewing the outline you built in week 3, we will workshop the stakes that create your story arcs. We will use character development from week 1 to confirm ties between plot and character. These ties develop the tension and suspense that makes your script the most satisfying.

Spade Robinson is the founder and owner of Atlanta Film Project (formerly Story Consulting Services), a full-service consulting firm for storytellers in film and television. Spade began curating scripts, films and work in progress projects during her time at Sundance Institute, where she worked with the Feature Film Program, Documentary Film Program and Sundance Film Festival. During that time, she worked with hundreds of filmmakers to develop the most compelling versions of their stories. Underneath Rahdi Taylor of the DFP, she created a series of workshops to cultivate emerging filmmakers, building a pipeline into the funding opportunities there. Outside of Sundance, Spade began consulting with Women In Film, HBO and The Blacklist to support emerging voices through their programs. In 2015, Spade founded Story Consulting Services, supporting both individual storytellers in development as well as companies cultivating talent.
