Love, Peace & Spades is a monthly game night for anyone looking for a fun space to kick it and bond over classic Black family games such as Bid Whist, Uno, Tunk/Tonk, Dominoes, and, of course, Spades—and if you need lessons, don’t worry, we got you!
This month at The LINE Hotel, author Lamont Jones will be our special guest as part of the release of his book, The Gist of Bid Whist: The Culturally Rich Card Game from Black America.
Jones, a former Olympic movement executive, lawyer, and General Counsel for Haymon Boxing Management, has enjoyed playing cards with a diverse range of people ever since a young age.
To commemorate the debut of The Gist of Bid Whist, Jones will sit down with our own Yazmin Monét Watkins for an author’s talk surrounding the book, the importance of keeping our Black family heirlooms fresh, and debate hot takes tied to Bid Whist that you won’t want to miss.
Afterwards, they will join players and attendees for a spirited Bid Whist coaching session, and autograph signing, while our selected sonic curators soundtrack the night with an abundance of audio bliss!
