Los Angeles entrepreneurs looking for a brick-and-mortar location may have a new opportunity in Downtown LA.
Mayor Karen Bass has launched Vacant to Vibrant DTLA, a new program designed to connect small businesses with vacant Downtown storefronts and provide support to help them get open.
Through the program, participating businesses can receive rent support along with assistance navigating permitting, build-out and other steps involved in opening a storefront. Property owners with vacant commercial spaces can also apply to participate. CCALA
The City is investing $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding to launch the Downtown program. Downtown Works, the nonprofit arm of the Central City Association, will administer the initiative. Los Angeles Mayor’s Office
The program officially launched October 2, when artist Charlie Alston signed a lease for a new gallery in DTLA’s Historic Core, bringing a storefront that had been closed for a decade back into use. Los Angeles Mayor’s Office
For Black entrepreneurs and other small-business owners across Los Angeles who have considered opening a physical location, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
