June 16-18: Celebrate Juneteenth weekend at the Weusi Art Exhibition at Art Share LA

Celebrate Juneteenth weekend at the Weusi Art Exhibition at Art Share LA in the downtown Arts district as we explore healing arts such as; music, art, dance, poetry, video and live drama to address the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and our quest for total liberation. We’ve named this event Weusi because it’s the Swahili word for “black” and this holiday, we’re celebrating black excellence!

This free 3 day multimedia art exhibit features an opening night ceremony on Friday at 6pm. Highlights include; a celebrity Red Carpet event from 6p-7p produced by ‘Perceptive by Princess Va’Shion,’ complimentary soul food hors d’oeuvres, an ancestral processional, keynote speakers such as; Dr. Melina Abdullah from Black Lives Matter LADr. Curley Bonds from the Department of Mental Health, free mini Pan African flags, bracelets, and other giveaways sponsored by LACDMH.

On Sat. 6/17, learn how to stay well from physician-musician-philosopher, Dr. Chill, father of singing sensation Jhene Aiko, also experience a thrilling “Friendship Dance” by the Yankuititl Aztec dancers, Juneteenth-themed videos, and a healing workshop on Intergenerational Trauma facilitated by Kevin R. Collins, Community Health Worker at LA County Dept. of Mental Health and presentations by BAHUsCC (Black & African Heritage Underserved Cultural Communities).

Our closing Sunday matinee will screen film excerpts about Malcolm X and Marcus Garvey presented by filmmakers, Ben Caldwell and Shaka Shatori. Produced by Queen Nina Womack of Transmedia 360 and Let’s Be Whole, and sponsored by the LA County Department of Mental Health, CalMHSA, Take Action LA, and more. Space is limited.
